I'm happy to welcome you to The Urswick School's website. This mixed secondary school is located right in the middle of Hackney.
Given that we are commemorating the school's 500th birthday, this is a really significant year.
On the location of what is now a betting store on Mare Street, Christopher Urswick, Rector of Hackney, established a free school in his rectory in 1520.
The school, which for many years went by the name Hackney Free and Parochial, finally found a single location on Paragon Road, where we are presently.
Our school has grown and currently has 180 spaces available for students in grades 7 through 11, along with a very successful Sixth Form.
We changed the school's name in September 2011 to Christopher Urswick in honour of our founder.
Not only a school for Christians, we are a Christian institution.
I have been the school's headteacher for 12 years.
The school's leadership and management have consistently received an Outstanding rating from OFSTED.
Come to The Urswick School if you want to provide your child with an education in a nurturing setting that emphasises success.
Our pupils' behaviour was lauded by OFSTED, who also noted how the school efficiently addresses the infrequent cases of bullying.
I sincerely hope you will come visit our school if you currently have a child in Year 5 or Year 6 of a primary school to learn more.
Without an appointment, any parent or caretaker is invited to attend the headteacher's surgery on Mondays from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the school year.
You have the chance to speak with Mr. Brown about any issues or inquiries you may have on a first-come, first-served basis.
