The DfE has emphasised the necessity of "creating and enforcing a clear and rigorous requirement on all schools to teach the basic British principles of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of individuals with various faiths and views."
The 2011 Prevent Strategy outlined the government's notion of British values.
The right of every community member to be heard and the obligation of others to allow this to happen are two of St. Clements' core principles.
The awards under our school's behaviour code are determined by the needs and interests of the particular students.
In all facets of the school, the fundamental and principled right to feel safe is of utmost importance.
Students are encouraged to understand, know, and exercise their rights and personal freedoms, and they are given advice on how to do so safely. However, it is also the students' obligation to think about how their decision may affect them and others in the short- and long-term future.
Our goal for every child includes helping them gain a healthy regard for themselves, as well as self-worth, self-esteem, and learning confidence.
This is the main goal we have, and it runs through all of our policies on teaching and learning, behaviour, and safety.
It comes up in conversations about goals for the workplace and personal conduct.
Everyday, every member of the staff exemplifies it, and the community as a whole expects it.
This is accomplished by increasing students' awareness of their own needs as well as those of others and by instilling in them a sense of belonging to St. Clements, their local community, and the global community.
A significant portion of the work done at St. Clements is about differences, but it is also about celebrating and embracing difference through the recognition of accomplishments, helping students understand their place in a multicultural society, and providing them with opportunities to interact with diverse cultures through experience days and educational visits. Staff members also work with visitors and extended family members to help students understand and engage with a variety of cultures and belief systems.
Prejudices and prejudice-based bullying are regularly covered in circle time, P4C, PSHE, and Heart Smart lessons, and 1:1 work done after any occurrences reinforces this learning.
To improve instruction in classes and throughout the school, people of all faiths are urged to share their knowledge.
