An Enhanced Mainstream School is Thirsk Community Primary School (EMS).
In 42 primary schools in our local area of North Yorkshire, the specialised personnel in the purpose-built, resourced EMS provision supports students who present with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health issues.
If their home school needs further help and input to properly care for these students inside their school, they can refer the students who are giving them concern to our service.
When a student is referred to our service, the EMS team works closely with the student, staff, parents, and teachers to support them.
Schools are given support and intervention with the goal of enhancing our cluster schools' competence, confidence, and capacity to better serve the needs of students who are not achieving the expected development because of their social, emotional, and mental health requirements.
The EMS staff as a whole is dedicated to giving students the tools and chances to: build social skills, be motivated to learn, develop empathy, self-awareness, and effective emotion management.
Schools can use the Single Point of Access to submit a "Request for Involvement."
To determine the scope and amount of need, a team member will schedule a meeting with staff.
The teaching staff will react by watching the student in class and meeting with the parents/caregivers to get their opinions if additional support is required at home.
The home medical teacher will meet with parents, the home school, and the child in the event of a medical referral (a child who is temporarily unable to attend school due to a medical need) in order to provide educational support in the home environment and to ensure a smooth transition back to school when the child is fully recovered.
