Welcome to the website for Summerhill Academy. We are currently embarking on an exciting academy improvement journey since I was appointed as Summerhill Academy's principal in January 2018. The website will give you details about Summerhill, but if you want to learn more, don't hesitate to email us at [email protected]. Visits are cordially invited. Our ideals were created by the entire Summerhill Academy staff in January 2018. These principles support our ethos, which also incorporates the "Heart" ideals of the Cabot Learning Federation. Through a compassionate and inclusive approach, Summerhill Academy works to meet the needs of all the kids. The "Think like a Learner" and "Learning Gems" techniques are having a good effect on the students' learning behaviours and have contributed to a supportive environment. The Thrive Approach is used in conjunction with these strategies to assist the kids' emotional and social development. The supportive and trustworthy environment that permeates the academy contributes to everyone in our community flourishing and taking responsibility for their actions and learning. The Principal is a Thrive trainer, and Summerhill has five Thrive practitioners. Summerhill Academy uses the Mastery Maths approach, high quality texts to support English learning and has an enquiry based curriculum, which uses key questions to stimulate learning across the curriculum. In the coming year, we want to create high-quality instruction and learning that motivates our students to achieve their goals. The academy works closely with parents and carers through parent forums, a fund raising group, class assemblies followed by stay and learn sessions and open afternoons where parents can come and see the school in action.
