From the Stockingford Academy
At Stockingford Academy, we place as much importance on facilitating academic success for every student as we do on preparing them for adult life outside of the official tested curriculum. Making sure that we promote and reinforce British Values to our students is a part of our responsibility in preparation. The basic British principles of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and respect for people of all religions and beliefs must be promoted in all schools, according to the DfE, which recently underlined the necessity of doing so. The 2011 Prevent Strategy was the vehicle through which the government defined British values. From a curricular standpoint, classes on history, religion, PSHE, and current events all include the topic of democracy. Students are instructed on the importance of laws, their justifications, how they regulate and safeguard us, the duties associated with this, and the repercussions of breaking the law. With the knowledge that they are in a secure and encouraging atmosphere at school, students are actively encouraged to make decisions. By providing a safe environment and empowering instruction, we educate young pupils and establish boundaries to allow them to make decisions securely as a school. Students have participated in talks and assemblies about what respect means and how it is demonstrated as part of our school's ethos and behaviour code. Respect for others is emphasised through classroom and learning guidelines, our behaviour policy, and posters displayed throughout the school. Any member of the school community who believes that the institution is failing to uphold British values should get in touch with the institution and voice their concerns to the headteacher.
