John Snell left one acre to the needy in his bequest in 1847 so that a Church of England school might be built there.
Thus, Saint James's Church established a boys' school in 1851.
The National Society has ties to the boy's school.
Since the 1960s, commonwealth immigration has changed Edmonton from a primarily white, working-class industrial suburb to a cosmopolitan community.
The population of Edmonton is young and racially diversified today.
The Society was established on October 16, 1811
The Society got very involved in many facets of education, from book publishing and equipment providing to teacher training.
Every parish in England and Wales was to have a church school established as part of the Society's purpose.
The majority of Church of England and Church of Wales schools, which were first referred to as National Schools, were founded as a result of its involvement.
Through numerous exhibitions and the utilisation of artefacts, the school's Christian character is clearly visible.
