From the Southborough Primary School
We at Southborough Primary School are pleased with our quick progress in raising student outcomes. We approach leadership and school improvement using an inquiry-based methodology. Over the last seven years this has enabled us to become a high attaining, inclusive, nurturing school were children make exceptional progress. In the London Borough of Bromley, we are a maintained elementary school with two form entries. For nearly all metrics, our contextual data is at or near national comparison levels. Progress in reading, writing, and math over the past four years has been among the highest in schools, and attainment is significantly higher than national benchmarks. This achievement was the result of leading via inquiry. We have good knowledge of our school, a clear understanding of what needs to improve, a clear vision of what we want, a clear plan to improve and a strong belief and the will to do so. We have a shared vision that has been formed via consultation with all parties involved. "Knowledge via Nurture" is what it is. By this, we mean a dedication to making sure that every kid in our care is fostered and, as a result, learns. We think that providing for each child's needs and a child's ability to learn are not mutually exclusive. For children with attachment issues and other challenges, for instance, we have a Nurture Room where they can succeed and advance. We also have highly trained Behaviour Learning Mentors to ensure that children with SEMH difficulties and ASD or ADHD, for example, thrive in our school. In our decisions, we hold ourselves to the vision and regularly go back to it.
