To Value, Respect, and Promote Optimum Learning is our mission statement. We're glad you're here and hope you enjoy reading the Portland Academy website. We provide care for over 168 kids between the ages of 11 and 19 who have significant, numerous, and complex medical needs as well as severe learning challenges. A growing number of our students suffer from an autism spectrum disorder. Portland provides co-educational daytime education to students in its catchment region, which extends beyond the city of Sunderland. For selected students, the institution is able to provide a variety of part-time or assessment placements. The Ascent Academies' Trust, a multi-academy trust made up of 5 special schools located in Sunderland, Durham, and Stockton, includes Portland Academy. This alliance gives us access to a variety of expertise and information and creates numerous chances for collaboration in order to raise student results. In addition to a social cafe, therapy pool, sensory room, occupational therapy room, woodland walk, outdoor adventure area, and cycling track, the school provides first-rate amenities. These, together with a relevant, progressive and challenging curriculum delivered and supported by committed staff, enables us to offer a wonderful range of varied opportunities to enrich our pupils' lives.
