A group of businessmen and professionals bought 20 acres of land in Purley in 1861 to build a school for the orphans of clerks and warehouse workers.
The Southwark Diocese purchased the Purley property in 1960, and on September 24, 1962, Bishop Cyril Cowderoy formally opened the two newly built schools, Thomas More Secondary and Margaret Roper Primary.
He held the position for 19 years before Mr. Dermot Mooney, the current headteacher, was appointed in September 2006.
At Margaret Roper School, we foster an environment that fosters learning. This includes not only academic learning, but also the crucial social learning that develops an educated heart and, most importantly, the spiritual, moral, and religious learning that results in an understanding of and love for God.
The most crucial component of our learning environment is our staff, which is strong and committed.
They promote the safe and joyful environment for which Margaret Roper is renowned because they are knowledgeable and kind.
Children in the primary grades are, in our opinion, incredibly eager to study, explore, invent, and discover.
Every aspect of our preparation takes the requirements of the children into account individually so that each kid can reach their full potential.
There are programmes designed specifically for children with unique needs, whether they have learning challenges or high intelligence, and they are carefully monitored and planned individually.
