As soon as you enter The Federation of St. Joseph's R.C. Junior, Infant and Nursery Schools, you can immediately tell that the school has a strong Catholic character.
For the school community, Year 1 presents The Easter Story.
Our school has opportunity to routinely gather and worship on Remembrance Day, throughout May, and on feast days.
Our school celebrates the feast day of St. Joseph, our patron saint, on March 19, therefore this day is always eagerly anticipated.
At St. Joseph's, our parish connections are particularly strong, and we believe that this helps the kids take more pleasure in the liturgies.
Our Catholic ethos is immediately apparent and active as soon as you enter St. Joseph's, both in the setting and in everyone's behaviour.
The liturgical calendar is reflected in exhibits around the school, there are lovely prayer spaces with displays in each classroom, scripture is a highlight of the school with framed posters created by each class, and there is a brilliant Salvadorian cross in every room.
At St. Joseph's, students take great pleasure in their books and love their Religious Education lessons.
The Mercy Apostles have had fun organising prayer services.
Our sixth-graders, who represent the houses of St. Catherine, St. Cecilia, St. Francis, and St. Sebastian, do a great job as house captains.
To celebrate their house's feast day and help the younger students feel a part of the smaller community, the House Captains organise a special assembly.
With an active school council that recently held a scripture competition and the Apostles of Mercy who were introduced to aid our school through the Year of Mercy from November 2015 to November 2016, student voice is strong at St. Joseph's.
Our school's existence revolves around prayer and communal worship.
Each site holds a weekly merit assembly to honour the accomplishments and skills of the lovely kids that make up our school community.
These are always wonderful chances for students to share their talents in theatre, music, computers, public speaking, silent thought, and other areas, as well as to recognise the accomplishments of each class and individual students.
Throughout the day, staff and children often pray together, and kids have the chance to write and share prayers in class and during assemblies.
In St. Joseph's, we have been participating in the Year of Mercy by electing class Apostles to carry out significant duties and inspire others to recognise the significance of the Year of Mercy.
The Westminster Cathedral's Door of Mercy has been visited by Year 4 students, who then shared their experience with the rest of the school during an assembly.
Each infant class has a little Door of Mercy in their prayer area, and each junior class has donated to a larger Door of Mercy for the entire school.
Every student in grades 2 through 6 found passing through the school's Door of Mercy to be a very memorable event.
During arts week, the children created their own Year of Mercy art work and children will be encouraged to carry out research around different faces of mercy.
In the history of St. Joseph's, this year has truly been extraordinary.
