Quick insights from ofsted Powered by AI

This insight was generated by AI, based on latest Ofsted report.

Foundational Skills: The school supports most pupils to become successful readers. In all classes, staff regularly read aloud to pupils and introduce them to new authors and books.
Success of the Curriculum: From early years to Year 6, the mathematics curriculum is well organised and resourced.
Areas Needing Improvement: In science, they learn lots of facts and carry out experiments, but are not guided to see the link between the two.
Performance in Maths & Reading: For the most part, pupils achieve well in reading and mathematics.
Support for Falling Behind: If any pupils find it hard to cope in lessons or with the busy dining hall and playground, they can find a peaceful retreat in the school’s treetops nurture room.
Behaviour and Attitudes: Good behaviour is noticed and rewarded, and there are several awards that recognise pupils’ helpful actions and effort.
Support for SEND Pupils: Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities receive well-informed support for any social and emotional needs.
Managing Bullying and Pupil Safety: Staff teach them how to spot and report bullying. Instances of bullying are rare, but are followed up properly if anyone raises a concern.
Promotion of Welfare and Safety: There is a healthy culture of learning from any mistakes. In lessons, staff teach pupils how to stay safe. They make sure they understand the importance of treating others with respect.
Parent Feedback: Staff say they like working at the school and that leaders support them in their work.
Parental Involvement: The junior leadership team gathers other pupils’ views and ensures they are heard.
Extracurricular Activities: Trips and outdoor learning, such as regular forest school sessions, add excitement to lessons.
Outdoor Facilities: The school’s provision for competition in PE is strong and has been recognised by a national award.
Teacher Engagement: Staff say they like working at the school and that leaders support them in their work.
Impact on Student Progress: From early years to Year 6, the mathematics curriculum is well organised and resourced.
Teaching Staff Challenges: Sometimes, staff add in extra books and/or questions that are not helpful. This works against the bulk of the highly effective reading and mathematics work that goes on and slows progress for a minority of pupils.
Assessment of Teaching Quality: Leaders have put detailed curriculum guidance in place. However, in some subjects, staff are not sure what is the most important knowledge to emphasise, revisit and check.

Mr D. Nolan - Acting Headteacher
Welcome to Maidensbridge Primary School
We are a small friendly and caring school with committed and hardworking staff, very supportive parents and dedicated governors. Our last OFSTED inspection in June 2017 demonstrated that were a GOOD school and provide our children with opportunities to learn and fulfil their potential across the curriculum. Our results at the end of Key Stage 2 are consistently good and our children's attainment is consistently above the national average in both Maths and English.
As a school, we are committed to the concept of developing the 'whole-child'. We enable our children to access opportunities that will help them discover things about themselves, develop their characters and enable them to be good citizens. We have an exciting and engaging 'Knowledge Curriculum' which seeks to develop deep subject knowledge, as well as develop their vocabulary and their life experience. We believe that all children have their own individual talents, interests and characters and we endeavour to foster and nurture these through our curriculum, after-school clubs and the extended experiences we provide.
The school has extensive grounds and has a semi-rural location which provides our pupils with a spacious and natural environment in which to develop, learn and play. We also have a mature Forest School area which boasts an outdoor classroom, fire pit and cob oven. Our Reception and Year 1 classes are regular visitors during the autumn and summer terms.
Our HSA works tirelessly to support the school and raise important funds which are invested into the children's welfare and education. Our community bonfire in November brings together several hundred people from our community and this is repeated at our summer Glastonbridge Festival in June. The school also provides seasonal workshops for our Reception and Key Stage 1 parents, as well as a range of curriculum workshops and open days.
It has been my privilege to serve this wonderful school for the last ten years as Deputy Headteacher and more recently as Acting Headteacher. It is also my pleasure to work with our incredible pupils and lead a staff team of caring, committed and talented people who work tirelessly for them.
