An active and welcoming school, Holy Rood Catholic Primary School has a lot going on. This website seeks to introduce you to the institution while also offering often updated information for both parents and students. The first Catholic school in Swindon was Holy Rood Catholic Primary. It was established in Regent Street in 1859 and relocated to the current structure on Groundwell Road in 1899. Due to an addition made to the school in the 1950s, each year group can now accommodate two classes of 30 students. The three original Victorian classrooms were divided into two bigger spaces, and a new classroom was constructed in 2000鈥2001. The two remaining Victorian classrooms' loft space was transformed into two brand-new, roomy, warm spaces. With the additional rooms, we are able to educate the Reception students in three groups of twenty, while also allowing them to work in smaller groups, which improves both teaching and learning. Before becoming a primary school in 1958 and an infant school in 1968, Holy Rood was an all-age school. Older students then transferred to the junior school at Upham Road. Holy Rood Infant and Holy Rood Junior schools received approval in 2015 to separate into separate primary schools. We kept the ancient name of Holy Rood while renaming the junior school Holy Cross. It is categorised as an Academy.
