From the Hillborough Junior School
Since the government granted Hillborough BEACON designation in May 1999, the school has continued to thrive.
The recognition of Hillborough as a very successful school with great teamwork from students, teachers, support staff, and governors served as a standard for the award.
Even though BEACON status was terminated nationwide at the end of August 2005, we have kept up our strong collaboration with other academic institutions by taking the lead in the creation of a learning network of twelve schools.
Colleagues had the chance to help struggling schools before, during, and after their OFSTED inspections when we were BEACONs.
A government "Leading Aspect" award for performing arts and sport, "Investors in People" designation, and a gold Activemark award for athletics have all been given to our school.
We were thrilled to be included on the OFSTED inspection roll of honour in January 2005 as one of just 31 schools selected to lead on the government's "excellence and enjoyment" agenda.
The school was rated "excellent" by OFSTED in every area in January 2010.
Hillborough Junior was awarded a "plato" in June 2010 for the "excellent" school team of the year in the eastern region as a result of the National Teaching Awards.
