In all we do, we strive to instil a sense of democracy, the necessity of abiding by social norms, respect and tolerance for all people, a knowledge of many cultures and traditions, and an appreciation for the value of individuality and liberty within a secure framework.
Within the school, the value of students' ideas and opinions is considerable.
Every student in Year 6 has the chance to become a School Prefect. This position entails working with and supervising classes during wet playtimes, keeping an eye on the hallways at lunch and recess, and buddying up with our Foundation Stage students, especially for reading.
Students at Great Leighs are made aware of appropriate behaviour through assemblies, yearly class/school rule discussions, PSHE lessons, and adult role models.
Our primary goal is to instil in our students the value of treating others with respect and tolerance, especially those who are a part of their local, national, and global communities. Students cannot appreciate difference until they are taught about many cultures, customs, and religions.
Our students are able to have a broad understanding of and tolerance for diversity thanks to assemblies, RE lessons, cultural days, a variety of musical, art, and dance experiences, visitors from other faiths, visits to a variety of places of worship, and the study of life in other countries throughout our curriculum.
The school community as a whole has a better understanding of living in various cultures because to its partner school in Ghana, where students express their personal faith, traditions, and cultures when it is possible.
Bullying is not accepted at school, and problems are resolved swiftly and efficiently through PSHE lectures, listening to kids' worries through the School Council, and in rare situations, working with parents.
Every year, students participate in Anti-Bullying Week and Safer Internet Day, which raise awareness of bullying and cyberbullying issues and offer preventive advice.
The Chelmsford Junior Music Festival, the Infant Music Festival, the Barnardo's Carol Service, and regular enrichment days with students from our neighbourhood cluster of schools all give our students the opportunity to interact with kids from different backgrounds and cultures.
Fundamentally, as a school, we respect kindness toward all people, regardless of background, culture, or religion, and we challenge everyone to bring out the best in one another.
