From the Whiteshill Primary School
Since 1712, Whiteshill Primary School has served the community of Whiteshill and its surroundings. In its current form, the main school building was constructed in 1887. The upshot of ongoing upgrades is the creation of four additional classroom structures. The staff room, a well-stocked library with a computerised system, and the school hall are now all located in the main building. The school's ICT resources are always being upgraded. Every classroom is equipped with an interactive whiteboard connected to a laptop for use by the teacher, five desktop computers, a DVD and CD player, a scanner and a visualiser, which is a device to show children's work. Additional twelve laptops, digital cameras, video cameras, and digital blue animation cameras are also available to each class as needed. A safe playground is located in front of the main structure. There is a climbing frame, slide, and balancing apparatus off to the side. There is also a planting area for growing vegetables and flowers and recent improvements have seen the addition of a sensory garden, a wildlife area and an Early Years outdoor learning area. Class 4 will design and create their own unique garden space. In addition to the playground, the school has the use of the local playing fields, a five minute walk away, for sports activities and other events.
