The school, which is located in a picturesque rural area between the communities of Waltham St. Lawrence and Shurlock Row that it serves, can be characterised as a lively and nurturing learning environment at the centre of the neighbourhood.
Our goal at Waltham St. Lawrence Primary School is to create a joyful family environment where a love of learning and a strong sense of teamwork are developed.
The school maintains close ties with the parents and the neighbourhood, and it is fostering connections with Mnyacongo School in Tanzania.
The all-age village school known as Waltham St. Lawrence School was founded in 1910.
For the soldiers who were injured during the First World War, children collected eggs. In 1916, more than 1000 eggs were collected.
From the start of the War, evacuees shared the school, and the RAF at White Waltham sent numerous students there.
In 1999, the original Reception/Year 1 classroom was transformed into a servery/dining room, and the dining room and kitchen spaces into two Key Stage 1 classrooms.
There is now a separate, gated Foundation Stage play area with a sandpit, gardens, and seats for the Reception/Year 1 class.
Using funds generated by the PTA, an adventure playground was built over the 1998 summer break.
The school has undergone a comprehensive interior and exterior redecoration during the past few years.
A calm garden area where kids can hang around with friends was established in 1999.
In 1985, the school bell on the roof was once again used to signal the beginning of classes after a 25-year hiatus.
The school hall's traditional bell rope enables it to ring out at the beginning of the day and at the conclusion of recess.
A new headteacher's office and a larger administrative room were added to the office space during the summer of 2009.
When the structure that housed the oil tank was destroyed, the playground was also enhanced and expanded.
Due to the school's centennial celebrations, 2010 was a very significant year.
With renovations and redecorations, it keeps changing and evolving.
The hall is the centre of the school where the children gather for assemblies, plays and productions, and to do PE, dance and gymnastics.
