The school is set in the beautiful village of Hopwas and is nestled between the Coventry Canal, Hopwas Woods and the picturesque banks of the River Tame. It serves students from Hopwas and the nearby communities who are between the ages of 4 and 11. The first school existed in the 1700s and got its name when an orphaned local kid named Thomas Barnes was discovered in a barn. He was brought up and educated by the local families before eventually relocating to London where he found success. Later, in thanks for the village's assistance, he went back to Hopwas and started the school. We belong to the "A journey of infinite potential" Tame Valley Co-operative Learning trust. The staff and volunteers at Thomas Barnes Primary School are expected to share the school's commitment to promoting and protecting the welfare of children. We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection Policy which can be viewed by clicking on the 'Key Information' tab and then 'Policies'. When there are worries regarding a child's wellbeing, we may occasionally need to exchange information and collaborate with other agencies. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare. We vigorously support the government's Prevent Agenda to fight extremism and radicalization. Miss K. Allister and Mrs. L. Gaffiney are your deputy designated safeguarding leads.
