These viewpoints, which cover a period of more than 2000 years, have the same belief regarding the significance of history research. According to the National Curriculum (2014), the history curriculum should promote in students "asking perceptive questions, thinking critically, weighing facts, sifting arguments, and developing perspective and judgement." Children who are familiar with history are better able to "understand the complexity of people's lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time," according to the National History Day website. In order for students to have a solid understanding of who they are in relation to the society in which we live, we at Sutton-at-Hone CE Primary School think that studying about history is essential. Along with our Fundamental British Values, history should foster in young people a curious, inquiring mindset as well as a sense of tolerance and an appreciation for various social systems and cultural traditions. While there are many different ways to teach history, it is most effective when students engage in hands-on activities like field trips, workshops, and the utilisation of real resources. Children learn about societies from the oldest civilizations to the current day as they develop a sense of chronology. They study all facets of local, national, and international history as well as historical figures who had a significant impact on national and global accomplishments. Encourage your child to share stories from their youth and memories of their older family members with other family members (50 things). Stay interesting historical sites or museums, many of which are free and have wonderful materials for kids to use during their visit (50 things).
