The school's initial location was on Cox Lane, right near to St. Pancras Church in the heart of Ipswich.
It was established in 1871 and offered assistance to some of Ipswich's poorest residents, many of whom were immigrants from Ireland.
The school was relocated to Stratford Road in the rapidly growing Ipswich north-west suburbs in the late 1950s.
On September 16, 1957, the school reopened.
The school had 209 students enrolled during the 1960s "baby boom" era, or an average of almost 40 students each class!
A sixth permanent classroom was constructed off the hall in 1999, allowing the school to function as a typical one-form entrance primary with one class per year group.
The school's Golden Jubilee was celebrated on Stratford Road the next year, in 2008.
Since then, the school has benefited from three more important capital investment projects: a redesign of the entrance area with new offices for the assistant headteacher and headteacher; a re-cladding of the entire south elevation; and a new roof.
There are three Catholic elementary schools in Ipswich as of 2017.
To St. Alban's Catholic High School, the majority of St. Pancras students transfer.
The school joined the Our Lady of Walsingham Multi Academy Trust in April 2019.
