From the St Lawrence CofE Primary School
St Lawrence Primary School, Church Stretton is a medium size school located in the heart of the beautiful Shropshire hills, serving a wide catchment area of pupils from surrounding villages. We have strong ties to the neighbourhood and the nearby St. Laurence's Church (note the different spelling). We currently have about 270 students enrolled in 10 mixed-age classes ranging in age from 4 to 11 years, and the nearby private nursery joined the school in September 2017. We currently have close to 300 students overall. The school's faculty is made up of a balanced mix of experienced teachers and those who were just hired, and each class is backed by a strong network of trained teaching assistants. The effective operation and prosperity of the school are greatly aided by the passionate "Friends" (PTA) and the active and dedicated Governing Body. We advocate for a welcoming and inclusive workplace for both staff and students. Our forest school is expanding, and every afternoon, people use the pool! Through staff-run groups and outside expertise, we not only support excellence in the National Curriculum but also provide a wide choice of extracurricular activities. Each lesson topic is supported by a variety of enrichment programmes. Every kid is valued, their needs are met, and we work to make sure all of our students enjoy their time here. Our team includes a Family Support Worker who can assist parents and students with a wide range of problems. Our school provides a place to develop new skills and friendships. We want to send the kids off to the big, wide world at the conclusion of Year 6 prepared for the rest of their schooling.
