The Rev. Simon Gill is the parish priest in charge of All Saints Church.
All Saints Church was originally a Norman flint and rubble church constructed for the new parish established in the town's southwest corner at the time of the expanding wool trade to serve Sudbury, which had developed into a bustling centre of commerce and industry.
A tiny chapel and dorter were built atop Ballingdon Hill to serve as a rest stop for travellers after the ford crossing the River Stour was swiftly replaced by a bridge. These structures have since been removed.
Adam the Monk purchased the church and chapel along with associated grounds in 1150 for the Abbey in St. Albans. It remained in the abbey's care until the Dissolution, when Thomas Eden, Clerk of the Star Chamber, took over as patron of the living in 1551.
Only the chancel remains from the church's earlier construction, which was rebuilt in the early 1300s in the ornamented style (1280–1380) and once again in the 15th century, primarily in the perpendicular style (1375–1550).
Having three beautiful churches within its borders, which is unusual for such a tiny town, Sudbury was at the time as significant a town as Colchester and Norwich and immensely affluent.
