The first efforts toward having a Roman Catholic church built in Costessey were taken in 1811 by Lady Stafford of Costessey Hall; regrettably, it wasn't completed until 1841, nine years after her passing.
She was also a driving force behind the village's Catholic school's establishment.
The master's residence and school were established by Lord Stafford in 1820, and he was solely responsible for its upkeep.
The Mother General of St. Paul's Convent, SellyPark, Birmingham, granted Lord and Lady Stafford's request in 1871 to send a small community of teaching sisters to take over the management of the school.
The majestic Costessey Hall was part of the Stafford Estate that was put up for sale in 1918.
The school was turned over to Cannon McShee, who worked as the parish priest of Our Lady & St. Walstan for 40 years, from 1925 to 1965, after Lord Stafford made his ultimate break with Costessey.
A centennial celebration commemorated the Sisters of Charity and St. Paul's extended stay in Costessey in 1976.
Throughout its lengthy history, the school has undergone numerous expansions and improvements.
The new entrance and offices were finished in 2009 after Our Nursery was custom built in 2003.
The school recently increased its size to include more Hall space and additional instructional areas.
Construction was finished by the 2013 summer term.
