The Presentation Sisters, a nunnish order, founded St. Anne's School in 1888. It had only 48 kids when it first started and was initially located behind St. Anne's Catholic Church. The structure we are in right now was built in 1972, but it has undergone numerous additions to meet the growing number of students that attend this school. It was Nano Nagle who founded the Presentation Sisters. Nano Nagle was born in Ballygriffin in County Cork in 1718, She was the daughter of a rich family and was sent away to study in France as Catholic education was not allowed in Ireland at that time. She was horrified to see the living conditions many people were in when she got back to Ireland, so she started working to make things better for the underprivileged. Nano established miniature schools where students learned writing, reading, math, and spelling. Nano would visit the needy, ill, and dying after school. Nano obtained his religious habit in June 1776, and the Presentation Order was going. Today Nano Nagle's Presentation Sisters are found all over the world, spreading God's word and following in Jesus' footsteps as they work to improve conditions for the poor and provide education.
