The school has launched the "Early Risers" programme as part of its dedicated transition programme, inviting Year 6 students who are going up into our Year 7 to join us for the final three weeks of the summer term.
After being introduced to the school in July of last year, students and parents visited, participated in lessons, and spent time learning about our standards and ethos.
The program's main goal is to help students adjust to Sheffield Springs Academy before classes break for the summer. It does this by letting them know what to expect from us, letting them know what to expect from their new environment, helping them meet new people, and allaying any fears they may have about moving up to secondary school.
The foundation of all we do is learning, and in each of our classrooms, we have extremely high standards that we want every student to meet.
Early Risers has already had a significant beneficial impact, as noted by parents, students, and staff.
Head of School Mark Shipman stated: "Each year, we frequently hear from parents and kids who are anxious or concerned about the transition from primary to secondary education.
About 200 kids have already participated in the programme with the help of their primary school teachers, participating in a variety of activities like learning about the schedule, getting to know important staff members, attending literacy and enterprise events, and attending themed special assemblies.
The academy's annual sports day and summer school during the holidays are additional opportunities for the new enrollees.
Due to the Early Risers program's tremendous success, we will once more be providing this opportunity to all Y6 children who have been assigned a secondary school spot at Springs Academy beginning in September 2017.
On the week of May 22, 2017, all parents will get information about the programme in a letter delivered to their homes.
94% of parents reported that their child's time in the Early Riser Program was favourable.
Parents support another run of the programme 97% of the time.
In accordance with 91% of pupils, the Early Riser Program was enjoyable.
For Y6, it is a terrific head start and builds their self-esteem for when they formally begin secondary school.
