From the Shaftesbury School
Through our House structure, we encourage all students to participate actively in school life. Students are placed in one of four houses upon entering the school, with older pupils serving as mentors for younger students, encouraging and guiding them. The House system provides for a more personalized approach to the academic and pastoral support of your child and we use it to promote the celebration of the gifts and talents of our students; through inter-house competitions, attitude to learning points and rewards. There are just 38 state boarding schools in the nation, including Shaftesbury School. Over 100 boarders can stay at Barton Hill House in our boarding home. Many of these students come to us from all over the world, bringing with them their varied cultures, faiths, and traditions that enrich our learning environment. We are a fantastic, neighbourhood community school with a global perspective. Excellent facilities are available to us across the board. These resources, along with the diligence and commitment of our teaching and support staff, allow Shaftesbury School to offer the ideal setting for your child's development and well-being.
