From the Scalby School
Our goal is to provide pupils with a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of both the past of Britain and the rest of the world.
We look at the evolution of the Church, state, and society in Britain from 1066 to 1745 using a combination of in-depth and overview studies and a variety of inquiry topics.
In Year 8, we carry on the theme of examining ideas, political power, industry, and Empire 1745–1901, including a particular examination of the impact on Scarborough.
The Modern World, an AQA GCSE course that gives students the chance to study both the breadth and the depth of 20th-century history, is offered by the history department.
The effects of World War One and Hitler's foreign policies are among the important subjects.
Finally, students will research America's involvement in the Vietnam War in preparation for the exam.
Two historical inquiry questions on Britain's part in the First and Second World Wars form the basis of the controlled assessment, which accounts for 25% of the final grade.
We plan an annual trip for GCSE students to see the World War One battlefields.
