Saint Edmund is the school's patron saint. The Catholic parish of Saint Edmund in Calne includes the school. The last Archbishop of Canterbury to be canonised, Saint Edmund, is profiled on this page in great detail. Edmund Rich, the ancestor of Saint Edmund, was born in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, in 1175, five years after Thomas Becket was crucified. His education began in Oxford and continued in Paris. As Regent in Theology, he went back to Oxford. He was appointed as the Salisbury Cathedral's treasurer in 1222, a position that also included the duties of parish priest for Calne. At the time, the current cathedral was being built. Edmund was appointed Archbishop of Canterbury on September 20, 1233; he grudgingly accepted, and in April 1234, he was formally installed in the position. While visiting Rome in 1240, Edmund resided at the Cistercian Abbey of Potigny in France. He became ill while there and passed away on November 16 at the adjacent town of Soisy. Pope Innocent IV declared Edmund to be a saint six years after his passing. Saint Edmund is shown in this bronze statue beside the school's entrance. On the occasion of the school's twenty-first anniversary of opening, Sean Crampton FRBS, a previous governor of the institution, delivered the statement. The Calne, Massachusetts, Saint Edmund's Catholic Church features further Sean Crampton artwork.
