All of the students and community members at Minsthorpe Community College are dedicated to lifelong learning. Striking for full participation of all students who have reached Year 11 in Post-16 education and training is an essential component of this commitment. With high success rates, we offer a wide variety of academic, vocational, and occupational courses. Course leaders for Post 16 subjects are members of well-known staff who have already assisted and directed students through GCSEs. Our facilities are excellent and on par with those of any other school or college. They include a sports and fitness centre, a library learning centre, and a recently updated post-16 study centre. They also include a common room that was recently renovated with upgraded ICT capabilities and a kitchenette. All young people have access to non-qualifying enrichment activities at Key Stage 5, which broadens their experience. To apply to study at Minsthorpe Post 16 please contact Mr Dowey by calling 01977 657600 or emailing [email protected]. The enrollment of Minsthorpe Community College is around 1500. About 220 of these are post-secondary students. The College mostly offers Level 3 courses at BTEC Certificate, Diploma, and A Level, but also offers Level 1, 2, and pre-apprenticeship programmes. Currently, around 75% of students continue on to further education (steady increase over the last 5 years). A large number of our students are eligible for the Bursary, and the local area is one of relative social and economic deprivation (low Higher Education up-take with lots of involvement in widening participation work locally), with many families having been part of the ex-mining community. Re-generation is a top goal locally, and many of our applicants for higher education will be the first members of their family to attend college.
