The main school building on Mill End Road, known as Mill End Secondary School, was built in 1936. Originally, the north and south sides of the structure were designated for boys and girls, respectively. The institution opened its doors as Sands County Middle School in 1973, serving students aged 8 to 12. The school, however, changed its name to a Junior School in September 1998 to accommodate students in the new secondary school transfer age range of 7 to 11. In September 1999, Millbrook Combined School was established on the grounds of Sands Junior as a result of the merger of Sands Junior, Sands First School, and Green Street First.
