From the Mill Lane Primary School
The original structure was near Stockton's centre, on Mill Lane, where a former flour mill formerly stood, and it served 90 students when it first opened its doors as Mill Lane Board School in 1872.
When there were just 160 students left in 1972, a portion of the original structure was transformed into temporary quarters for the Stockton Teachers Center.
The need for a new building that would not only offer a contemporary learning environment for students but would also be more conveniently positioned to serve those from the west of the town was also becoming increasingly evident as people moved away from the town's centre.
A new era began in the 1980s with the establishment of a purpose-built school on Wellington Street, behind the masonic hall, on the site of previous terraced houses.
Many of our children's parents and grandparents attended the school both in its current configuration and at its previous location in the town, thus this structure is still our home today.
As the school approaches its 150th year of providing education to the community, we are proud to offer a joyful, secure, caring, inspiring, and inclusive environment that reflects the rich cultural diversity of the area. In this environment, kids can learn, grow, and feel valued, and their efforts are rewarded and their accomplishments are recognised.
