Students doing GCSE History in Years 10 and 11 braved blizzard-like weather to travel to Berlin and tour the city, which makes up a significant portion of their coursework.
To further their understanding of the years 1933–1945 in Germany, students visited Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp, Wannsee, the Olympic Stadium, the Gestapo Headquarters, and the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe.
In order to help them understand the larger context of their Superpowers curriculum, students were also given the opportunity to explore underground bunkers and the Berlin Wall.
The city itself provides unique insights into the Second World War and the Cold War, with landmarks like the Holocaust Memorial serving as a reminder of the crimes and repercussions on civilian life, as well as the underground nuclear bunkers.
The Manshead group's 2018 trip to Berlin was beautiful and enlightening.
Overall, the expedition was a fun and educational excursion that helped me learn more about Berlin's history and the significant events that have occurred there.
