From the Longfield Primary School
In 1935, Longfield Middle School made its debut. Miss Holliday was the school's first principal. The school has a long history, some of which are still present. There have always been a Head Boy and Head Girl as well as Deputies since the school established. Green and gold have traditionally been the school colours. The school's anthem, which is still sung today, was first composed in 1936 by Mrs. E.M. Cooper, a temporary teacher there. Mr. Dion Rushe, a local musician who volunteered at Longfield and taught Year 3 students the ukulele in 2016, produced a digital version of the text. The School Song was intriguing because it included words for each House Group. Think of Others is the school's motto. When Miss Holliday was drafting school regulations, she tried to keep them to a minimum and make them as logical as possible. "Why not end with 'Think of Others,'" said her nephew, who was also a teacher at the school. "It is the foundation for all regulations." It effectively summarised the guidelines and served as a great school slogan. For each House, Miss Holliday requested written recommendations and a motto. The term Jubilee comes from the fact that on May 6th, a holiday, schools were closed in honour of King George V's Silver Jubilee. St. George became one of the House names as a result of its significant significance to our national traditions. Sunflower was chosen as a reminder of cheerfulness which the school needs to maintain a happy atmosphere.
