From the Langdon College
Since it premiered in 1992, Langdon has advanced significantly. Our burning passion to help Jews with learning disabilities live independent, meaningful lives drives everything we do. We accomplish this by giving our members places to reside, assisting them in locating and securing employment, and encouraging community interaction within their immediate surroundings. Six people attended Langdon College when it first opened; today, there are more than 25. It bears the name of Margaret Langdon, a well-known Jewish philanthropist and community leader from Manchester who founded Delamere Forest School in 1921. For those leaving the College, Langdon created supported living homes in 2005. Over 100 members of the Langdon community currently reside in assisted housing across 50 different properties in Manchester, Edgware, and Borehamwood. In Edgware, Maccabi House, a community building for Langdon and its members, was established in 2012 after a specialised employment service was established in 2004. Jewish ethos is used to provide assistance for Langdon's members, and a Jewish Ethos Manager is specifically assigned to this task. Our mission is to make sure the young people we support have the same possibilities as their peers to enjoy a full social life and the fulfilment that comes from a hard day's work. These common goals would continue to be out of their reach without Langdon's assistance. Our goal is to give our people the additional assistance they require in order to live independent and fruitful lives.
