Foundational Skills: Leaders have rightly prioritised the teaching of phonics and early reading as a reaction to previously disappointing outcomes at key stage 1.
Success of the Curriculum: In some subjects, the curriculum is very clearly defined, but in other subjects it has not been broken into small steps of learning.
Areas Needing Improvement: Some pupils still have gaps in their phonic knowledge because of historically weaker teaching.
Support for Falling Behind: Pupils who require extra help with reading are supported effectively to catch up.
Behaviour and Attitudes: Pupils behave well. They show respect for each other and adults. Pupils demonstrate positive attitudes to learning in lessons.
Performance in Maths & Reading: Pupils cannot talk with as much confidence about their learning in these subjects.
Support for SEND Pupils: Pupils with SEND are supported effectively to access the curriculum alongside their peers. In a very small number of instances, pupils' learning is too heavily supported.
Managing Bullying and Pupil Safety: Pupils say that bullying is not a problem in the school and are confident that adults would deal with it quickly if it did happen.
Promotion of Welfare and Safety: Potentially vulnerable pupils are identified quickly and appropriate support is put in place for both them and their family.
Parent Feedback: Parents speak positively about the support that they receive from the school.
Parental Involvement: Through the school’s hub, parents themselves can access a wide range of educational courses, such as English and mathematics skills.
Extracurricular Activities: There is a range of extra-curricular clubs on offer to pupils to develop their talents and interests, mostly for key stage 2.
Teacher Engagement: Leaders ensure that all adults who work with pupils on reading are well trained.
Impact on Student Progress: Adults provide lots of opportunities for children to develop their early literacy and mathematics skills.
Assessment of Teaching Quality: Regular checks are done to address gaps in pupils’ knowledge.
Teaching Staff Challenges: In some subjects, the curriculum has not been broken down into small steps of learning making it difficult for teachers.

From the Holycroft Primary School
We are a respectable institution at the centre of a vibrant and diverse neighbourhood. Three fundamental principles underlie our success. First and foremost, we want to provide all of our kids with a secure refuge where they can flourish and grow. We strive to support and develop every one of our kids, no matter what their needs are, so they can grow and succeed. Second, we want every Holycroft student to graduate from our programme with the knowledge and abilities necessary to succeed in the subsequent phases of their study. Of course, we have high expectations for their performance in arithmetic, reading, and writing. Beyond that, though, we want to help our kids become resilient, self-assured learners who are interested in their environment. Additionally, as a member of the Northern Star Academies Trust, we have access to top STEM professors, allowing us to give our students a rich understanding of the subjects that will influence their lives and perhaps even their jobs. Finally, we want to be a school that is in the centre of the neighbourhood. Our staff, the parents of the students, and the students themselves all consider our school to be a family. We think that by working together, we can accomplish more for our kids. Our school serves as a learning resource for the entire community, both adults and children, through our Family Learning Hub. I sincerely hope that if you are already a part of our school community, you will find our website to be helpful. I hope it will offer you a taste of our school if you are searching for a place for your kid to attend, and I hope you will come visit us to see Holycroft Primary School in person.
