The state established an elementary school in 1838, and it was upgraded in 1848 with a further donation of 156.
A master and a mistress taught 90 boys and 92 girls in Heytesbury's Sunday and day schools in 1846.
In a space of 45 feet by 20 feet by 12 feet, with a flagged floor and parallel desks, a master taught 50–60 students in 1858.
In 1900, the former school became the community reading room after the school was transferred to its current location.
Sadly, no logbooks from the Victorian era exist in the public domain, but we do know what school life would have been like in general.
Children could stay in school until the age of ten by 1880, although they weren't required to.
In 1893, the learning age was increased from four or five, when most children began school, to eleven.
Lessons in scripture were basic ones in reading, writing, and arithmetic; the vicar frequently took some lessons in the latter subject.
There would have been some history and geography lessons.
Early in the 20th century, Wiltshire County Council took control of the institution.
Information regarding the subjects that were taught is scarce.
Both a Shakespearean play and a South African geography lesson are referenced.
There are many entries that mention corporal punishment, indicating that discipline was strict.
Following Mr. Ashworth, who had served in the position for 22 years, the head at this time was a woman.
She might have thought that enforcing strict discipline, especially with the older kids, was a way to demonstrate her power.
The kids' overall health was excellent.
Due to a measles outbreak, the school was closed for three weeks in June 1931.
Heytesbury became a junior school in September 1931, and all students aged 11 and older attended Warminster.
Mrs. Marion Beauchamp took over as headmistress the following April and held the position through 1943.
The number of students has changed significantly over time.
In October 2008, there were 63 students enrolled in the school; by 2014, there were 68. The school has continued to serve both Heytesbury and Tytherington.
A group of parents runs the Heytesbury Hedgehogs Pre-School, which was recently formed in a specially constructed classroom on the school grounds.
