The first September after turning four, children start at Grange Farm in one of our Reception courses. The Early Years Foundation Stage, which children move through from birth to age five, concludes with the Reception year. If they had previously attended Nursery, this would have been the curriculum that guided their learning. The Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum promotes independent learners who pursue their own interests while simultaneously building solid foundations in fundamental subjects. Children are evaluated in accordance with the Early Learning Goals at the conclusion of the Reception year, with a focus on PSED (Personal, Social, and Emotional Development), Communication & Language, Physical Development, Literacy, and Mathematical Development. A Reception student's day at Grange Farm is split evenly between adult-led activities (which often concentrate on key skills like phonics, math, reading, and writing) and child-initiated learning. There isn't much traditional entire class instruction, and it's possible that kids will say they spent most of the day playing when they get home. This is not an issue! When children in Reception have the opportunity to pursue their own interests, playing is a particularly effective way for them to learn many of the most crucial lessons. We utilise "Learning Journeys" as a type of learning scrapbook to display each child's unique learning routes throughout the year.
