1937 - A new secondary school with a $27,000 price tag is suggested.
The school began classes on September 17th.
Under Mr. Elliott, the head teacher, there were 300 students and 18 teachers.
Twelve classrooms, including two each for household science, science, and woodworking.
The fact that the New Gordano School has two halls, an art room, a library, a gym, and a kitchen has led local journalists to declare that the school is a palace.
On July 12, 1957, Sir Phillip Morris, the vice chancellor of Bristol University, gave Gordano School its formal opening.
The playing grounds still required renovation, and it had cost 146,000.
500 students were enrolled by September of that year, and council members demanded more classroom space.
The "post-war bulge" was cited as the cause of the growth.
The skeleton of an Iron Age man was discovered in 1961 during excavations. He was given the name Septimus since he was discovered on the seventh day of the seventh month.
With 900 students and 30 teachers, Gordano was dubbed the "Big Experiment" in 1964 when it opened as Somerset's first comprehensive school.
The education department predicted that by 1975, there will be three times as many schools.
The sixth form was expected to bring the total number of students to 2200.
Gordano purchased its first computer in 1980, and there was only one!
The Silver Jubilee Trust, a charity trust fund, was created in 1981 to commemorate the school's silver jubilee.
There were now 88 teachers and 1,589 students.
In 2003, Gordano School was accepted into the esteemed DFES "Leading Edge" programme.
As the lead school, Gordano works closely with St Katherines and Wyvern Schools on Leading Edge Projects.
2004 - Gordano School received The European Award for languages - the award was made in recognition of the school's innovative, effective and replicable approach to the teaching of French, German and Spanish.
2006 - Gordano School celebrated its Golden Jubilee and on November 11th officially opened a new hall, library, drama studio, a new music suite, extra science laboratories, and a maths, psychology and social studies block.
2007 - Gordano School received a new designation as a Specialist Technology College in October.
Gordano School became a Foundation School on November 1st.
