From the Faringdon Community College
On the outskirts of Faringdon, a charming market town in rural Oxfordshire, is the mixed comprehensive school Faringdon Community College, which serves students aged 11 to 18. The school is located on a sizable, beautifully manicured site with a great selection of specialised housing and services. We think school should be challenging with the end objective of passing exams, but we also think it should be entertaining and enjoyable. My top interests are the following: exceptional exam results, flawless conduct, excellent instruction, and the broadest range of high-quality extracurricular opportunities for all students. With a clear focus and lots of hard work, these things are all achievable and will deliver what I think most parents want, happy children who leave school with plenty of choices available to them and who are well-equipped to cope with the world outside. School should be a time that creates friendships and memories that last a lifetime. For employees and students to feel a part of the organisation and be involved at all levels, in our opinion, it is crucial. Our school's two-stranded "Visible Leaders" programme is one of the ways we accomplish this. One aspect of 'Visible Leaders' uses the experience of the senior team where they visit students in lessons on a daily basis to engage with them, monitoring their effort and progress. The sixth-form pupils are involved in the second aspect. They have bonded with a department and spend at least an hour a week helping students from all year groups with their schoolwork in that department. In addition to assisting students with their academic work, this project aims to foster a good working relationship between faculty and students. I think it will have a big effect on the school and the pupils over time.
