Chichester High School strongly supports British ideas in its curriculum both inside and outside of the classroom. Our conception of British values includes respect for and tolerance of people of all faiths and ideologies, democracy, the rule of law, and individual liberty. Recognize that the idea that equality is the cornerstone of British society is applied practically through tolerance of others. At Chichester High School, we value the diversity and backgrounds of all students and families, and we conduct a variety of events to emphasise this. A wide range of curriculum topics that are strongly tied to British ideas provide support for everything mentioned above. Each assembly is built around the traditional ideals of empathy, respect, and tolerance. In order to promote a deeper understanding of non-Christian belief in a traditionally Christian environment, the RE and PSHE curricula examine a variety of religious and cultural issues and welcome non-Christian visitors. The history curriculum covers important themes like how Britain changed over time and how our modern civilisation emerged. Laboratory regulations address the Rule of Law, and the science curriculum looks at the decisions parents must make when a child has a genetic disorder. Of Mice and Men addresses sexism, racism, and disability, whilst Animal Farm and Lord of the Flies tackle the concepts of Rule of Law and Democracy. Promoting British ideals like participation and sportsmanship through sport is a natural fit. The PE curriculum supports an inclusive sports day, ensuring that athletes of all skill levels have the opportunity to succeed. The annual Remembrance Assembly, student involvement in Remembrance activities in Chichester, and the minutes of quiet observed at 11:11 a.m. on the eleventh day of the eleventh month are all connected to this.
