Black History Month will be observed by Burton Agnes during the entire month of October. In every classroom, students will study one influential black person and their contributions to modern society. The remainder of the school will subsequently be informed of what they have learned during a special assembly. Class 4 students learned all there is to know about Nelson Mandela last week. The children shared with the rest of the school their new knowledge and helped them to understand the difference he made to our world today. Whilst talking with Class 4 during the week I was very impressed with how passionate they were about the work Nelson Mandela did, reflecting the inclusive school that we are. I was really delighted that the kids had all learned British sign language for the chorus and had chosen to sing a specific song as part of their presentation. It genuinely showed empathy and care for others. The fourth-grade students in Class 4 completed a fantastic presentation to share their knowledge with the rest of the school this week after studying Martin Luther King, Jr. They transported us back to 1968 and filled us in on Martin Luther King's life and his work with Rosa Parks. The youngsters have also been deliberating on what they would consider to be their "dream" for the planet. We have also learnt about he determination of Mary Seacole from Class 2 and Class 1 have brought us right up to date on our history journey by sharing information about the athlete Mo Farah.
