Brentside Primary Academy observed "Kindness and Values" Community Week from January 21 to January 25.
This was a chance for students to participate in developing a new set of shared school values that will support the school's future ethos and vision while also including the larger community.
KS1 Children participated in creating displays and posters, baking for others, and learning about community and "random acts of kindness" throughout the week.
Every class participated in the "Kindness Rocks" project by embellishing a variety of rocks that will be placed around our school pond to serve as a constant reminder of kindness and values.
The earnings will be sent to Barnardo's.
For the Ealing Soup Kitchen, we also collected contributions of packaged, non-perishable food products.
With their kind donations, Brentside families once again demonstrated their compassion for others. On Thursday, Andrew Mcleay, an Ealing Soup Kitchen worker who works with homeless people, visited the school to speak with students in grades 5 and 6 about the important work the organisation does and the impact their donations would have.
They have also been taught how to be excellent friends within the school community and about "random acts of kindness."
By spending some time collecting trash and learning how to maintain our neighbourhood looking clean and orderly, Year 3 assisted with litter collection in the neighbourhood.
On Wednesday, Year 5 Red paid a visit to the elderly and physically challenged residents of Hanwell's St. David's Care Home.
Year 6 students chose a name from a hat at the beginning of the week to be their "Guardian Angel" and sought to perform as many kind deeds for that individual as they could.
The kids will have to guess who their angel was at the end of the week.
They also participated in a knitting project; the youngster had been taught how to knit a 20x20 square in class.
Last but not least, on Wednesday, all KS2 students took part in Buddy Reading with the Reception and KS1 students; it was wonderful to see them helping the younger students and sharing their love of reading with them.
