From the Ballard School
Our pupils at Ballard learn to think critically, organise their ideas, and form persuasive arguments. Our topics are supplemented whenever feasible by practical experiences gained through activities, field visits, acting, and role-playing. History is a really enjoyable subject to study because not everything is what it seems. Uncomfortable questions must be asked, and information sources must be reviewed and questioned. The ability to understand, analyse, and evaluate sources is a skill that our students are encouraged to develop because it is useful in many other areas of the curriculum. All students study history throughout the Key Stages, and it is a popular subject for GCSEs. The history department at Ballard employs a variety of instructional methods, including group projects, discussions, role plays, crafts, script writing, and storytelling. Popular day tours and overnight excursions are another way that the education is improved. Our department's goal is to arouse and foster pupils' excitement and curiosity. By giving them access to a broad range of subject matter and experience, we inspire pupils to work hard and set high goals. Lessons should be interesting and engaging, is our goal.
