From the Astor Secondary School
Astor School opened its doors in 1948, and since then it has expanded significantly in both size and reputation. It was made a specialised school in 2002 and changed its name to Astor College for the Arts. It is well known in the community as a college that upholds the best standards for performance, conduct, and appearance. Parents know that much is expected of their daughters and sons and the highest goals are set, always within a context of care for the students and concern for what is appropriate for the individual. At the centre of Astor's ethos and philosophy is the family. Traditional accomplishments and contemporary educational innovation work together to create the stability and creativity that contribute to the distinctive popularity of today's college. Both the faculty and the students want to work in a positive and nurturing environment. The faculty and staff are devoted to giving students a meaningful experience by offering a wide range of extracurricular activities outside of class hours, including on weekends and holidays. At Astor, the visual arts are highly valued. This work extends throughout the College environment, the local community and internationally. Astor College takes pride in its performance on examinations. By any measure, our outcomes are outstanding. Many Astor College graduates enrol in universities, colleges of art and architecture, ag colleges, and higher education institutions. Ex-students from all educational backgrounds and areas of life frequently reappear to stay in touch. Life at Astor is based on respect for others and being courteous. Students are expected to respond to this and follow the codes of behaviour necessary to maintain it. Discipline is firm but fair, enabling all to share in the security of a well-ordered college community.
