The history of education in Appleshaw is extensive. In 1761 a Mrs Frances Offley, who lived in Walnut Tree Cottage, left a legacy of 50, the interest of which was "applied for teaching the poor children to read". In 1827 Catherine Butcher (married to James Edwards) left 100 in trust "for learning ten of the poorest children in the Parish or Hamlet of Appleshaw to read, knit and work". A school was given land around 1860–70 by John Edwards, who passed away in 1872. In 1870, the School, which could accommodate 65 children, was erected thanks to his endowment of 5. 50 kids were typically present on any given day at that time. The Old School House, which is now a private residence, was where the school was located. Senior children utilised the Church Hall for their classes when Redenham students arrived in Appleshaw when Fyfield School was shut down. Two additional classrooms were erected in 1920. In 1966, the current purpose-built school buildings were inaugurated. The academic year 1991–1992 marked the school's Silver Jubilee. St. Peter's Appleshaw is now a church-affiliated school run by the Diocese of Winchester. Within the constraints of the National Curriculum, the school strives to provide students with a well-rounded education. It places a strong emphasis on the values of a Christian up-bringing and on developing in the pupils a caring attitude, tolerance and a concern for the needs of others. The school places a high value on community involvement and encourages all students to take part in as many activities as they can, tailored to their individual needs and skills.
