From the Rushmoor School
In 1918, the Rushmoor School relocated from London to Shakespeare Road in Bedford. It was privately owned and educated children in the age range from eight to thirteen. The owner announced the closing of the school and her retirement in 1965. At this time a group of parents and friends persuaded her to allow them to take on the running of the School and Rushmoor School Ltd, a charitable trust administered by a Board of Governors, came into being. Under their guidance the School has expanded over the years to encompass the age range of 2-16 for boys and 2-11 for girls, and, of course, to extend both property and facilities. The 6th form centre, which has a number of classrooms, study rooms, and a common area, is one of the most recent building additions. New restroom facilities and renovations to the sports pavilion on the playing field are additional developments. In the summer of 2014, brand-new cricket facilities were opened, allowing students to improve their game. For the benefit of Junior Department students, a climbing structure and soft-mat play area have been created for them to use during break and lunch. To the benefit of the students who utilise our facilities, we are always making improvements. One of these is the addition of a brand-new food technology suite and the introduction of food technology to the school. Additional improvements include doubling the floor size of the Early Years Foundation Stage and remodelling the junior area.
