Motor Vehicle students had a visit from a police officer on Thursday (March 14), who talked about to them about the law relating to cars and mopeds. PC Tristan Barnett from the Epsom and Ewell Central Neighbourhood Policing Team spoke to the Level 1 and Level 2 students about how legislation will affect their future careers. This includes their responsibilities as MOT testers or mechanics, such as checking that licence plates conform to DVLA standards, as well as ensuring that vehicles are safe to be on the road. In addition, he explained to them their personal driving obligations and when insurance for business use is necessary, as well as the law governing insurance. "The students learnt a lot, so we're very grateful to PC Barnett for giving up his time to come and speak to them," said Neil Ward, Curriculum and Standards Coordinator for Motor Vehicle. PC Barnett fielded inquiries about everything from car modifications to jobs in the police force in addition to describing the law. He said, "I've really liked getting to know the students. "They asked some intriguing questions, and I believe what they learned today will be helpful in their daily lives and careers. Alex, a Level 2 student, asked PC Barnett about the roadworthiness of automobiles because he wants to be a mechanic in the future. Alex, who hopes to complete an apprenticeship next year, said, "I was particularly intrigued in what he was talking regarding vehicle modifications." Nescot provides Level 1 and Level 2 Motor Vehicle Certifications, as well as a Level 3 Apprenticeship.
