From the James Rennie School
James Rennie School admits students via guided places from Cumbria Local Authority. Places are offered to pupils from across the North of Cumbria on the basis that they have either Severe or Profound Learning Needs, many pupils have additional physical, medical or sensory needs. An educational psychologist will typically evaluate the severity or profundity of a student's learning needs and include that information in the student's Education Health and Care Plan. The Education Health Care Plan review process will designate James Rennie School as your child's school. We can accept pupils at any age between 3 and 19, and are not bound by the Key Stage transfers such as at the end of Primary Schooling (age 11), but this will be bound by the number of places we have available in a particular Key Stage. Families should be aware that we are limited by our size and because of this we cannot guarantee a place automatically for your child even if they meet our criteria for entry, if this is the case you can appeal to the Local Authority through the Educational Health Care Plan appeals process found on Cumbria. The first port of call if you would like your child to come to James Rennie School is to contact the Local Authority through the Local Offer by clicking here or by getting in contact with us for an informal conversation and visit, you can find our details by clicking here.

Teaches and TA’s are mostly lovely but significantly under trained. Child to staff ratio is far too low and this is inconsistent also. I.e 2 in...
