From the Buckswood School
The school, which was initially established close to Crawley in 1933, bragged that "languages are a special feature of the curriculum" and that "the school is run for children whose parents are abroad." Additionally, "organised games" and "riding lessons using our own ponies kept for this purpose" were provided. The school relocated to Uckfield during the War before being revived as an international school with British Council status in the 1970s. The current custodians of Buckswood have, of course, moved on after two ramshackle homes, but in a way, the school has completed a cycle. Three miles east of Hastings in East Sussex is Broomham Hall, a 16th-century manor mansion that serves as Buckswood's current residence. It is located in a wonderfully sunny location on 43 acres of land, just like the original Buckswood, although it is 60 miles (or an hour and a half by train) away from London. There are still sports facilities and riding stables. The school still has a distinctly international feel about it. More than 200 day students interact and learn with the same number of international boarders (who are receiving an English-language education), allowing everyone to profit from the ongoing cross-cultural exchange that occurs on a daily basis at the school.
