Tiddlywinks built a vacant works department site to establish a daycare facility located in the neighbourhood.
Tiddlywinks is a nonprofit organisation that was founded in 1997 as a small neighbourhood toddler club run by locals.
A recognised priority region, the Arbourthorne estate has very high unemployment rates, low incomes, and a high percentage of lone parent families.
The Tiddlywinks Center was established in April 2005 and currently provides services to about 156 families as part of the regional Children Center cooperation.
The facility offers 16 spaces for holiday play care in addition to a 65-space full-day care facility.
In order to meet the demand for children to be eligible for the 2 Year Old Free Early Learning, Tiddlywinks extended the offer in September 2013. This also helps the centre remain viable after losing sustainability funding from the local authorities.
