For more than 30 years, Sunlands has been a Steiner kindergarten.
Its pedagogy, which is based on the understanding that education needs to gently and holistically guide children through the various stages of their development, addressing their physical, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual side with a leisurely approach for the children's human and educational journey, serves as an inspiration for the teachers.
The kids spend time in the garden every day, no matter the weather. The kids enjoy being outside, getting lost in an activity of their own choosing, or joining in with the adults and helping out in the garden by planting, weeding, and watering.
Children and teachers sing seasonal songs, learn rhymes, perform finger games, and engage in ring games during circle time.
It is a happy and creative time, a great method to increase the children's love of language and music, and a fantastic socialisation tool.
In the kindergarten, snacks are made.
Differentiated instruction is used in the final year of kindergarten.
The children expand on their existing knowledge and skills, but it is expected that they make progress, take on leadership positions, assist the younger students, extend their own learning by exploration and discovery, have the ability to self-regulate, and are resilient and enthusiastic learners.
The older students will participate in creative projects throughout the year, which will require a higher degree of ability and motor skills, concentration, and persistence.
With the drop spindle they created, the kids in Sunlands will be taught how to spin.
We provide kindergarten instruction for 5–6-year-olds for up to 18 hours per week as part of the family's home education plan as a certified Early Years Setting (not a registered school), subject to legislative rules.
